For those who havenít checked out our review of SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation, which utilizes the features of this headset, should do so now. Since Sony decided to go with Bluetooth technology within the PlayStation 3 console, many third-party companies have been creating their own headsets, which were compatible with the console. While you can practically use any Bluetooth headset with your console, not all of them are actually designed to take full advantage of the features can capabilities of the console and this technology itself. Here comes the mighty Sony, finally releasing an official headset for the PlayStation 3 console, which can be bought on its own for $39.99, or bundled within the latest installment of SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation for $59.99.

Itís no secret that the Playstation3 Bluetooth Headset is the most advertised accessory for the PlayStation 3 console. There have been press releases, news articles and comparison charts created based on how well this headset will work and the type of features that it will include. The primary reason why are the attention was given to this accessory is because it out performs practically any and every Bluetooth headset thatís currently on the market. For those who donít believe me, here are some of the key features that the PlayStation 3 Bluetooth Headset includes:
  • High-Quality (HQ) mode delivers clear and wide-band online voice chat; supports Ďvoice command,í Ďvoice animationí and Ďproximity chatí for select games
  • Dual-microphone design for high quality noise cancellation
  • Included cradle allows Headset to be used as a desktop microphone while charging
  • Easily accessible mic mute button
  • Compact, sleek and ergonomic design fits comfortably on either ear

After booting up SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation and pairing the headset to the console, the first thing you will notice is that sound is ďultraĒ clear. Whether you are speaking to a fellow teammate through the built-in microphone or receiving orders on the battle field, everything is delivered via the High-Quality (HQ) mode. The dual-microphone design allows for your voice to be delivered clearly through the game, while at the same time canceling out any background noises that may interfere. While the HQ mode isnít utilized within every game you play that utilizes the Bluetooth headset, the clarity of sound going and coming is still better than most Bluetooth headsets on the market.

While most headsets utilize one control button to power on and off, and control the volume on the headset, the PlayStation 3 Bluetooth Headset utilizes four different and distinct buttons. You have the power button, which aids in turning the headset on and off, while pairing it with Bluetooth compatible devices. You have a giant, circular mute button, which can and will come in handy if you are playing the game and your wife or girlfriend is trying to talk to you While most will use the headset for in-game trash talking, the headset has another enticing feature to it. The head comes with a docking station, which you can utilize to help charge the headset (if you donít directly connect the headset to system), but also to help utilize the headset as a desktop microphone. So if you are in-game, but need to charge your headset, you can do so while still communicating with your fellow gamers.

The only setback I would say that this headset has is how it was designed to fit into your ear. I didnít have a problem fitting it on either of my ears and having it stay put, without falling out, however a few of my friends complained about how the headset utilizes a earbud design, so it makes it hard to stay stationery inside the ear. While I say the headset works perfectly fine as is; for those who think otherwise, can purchase these Jabra Ear Gels to some extra comfort and stability.

For the price, no Bluetooth headset can beat what the Playstation3 Bluetooth Headset has to offer. Whether for video game use or simply as a headset for the cellphone, you canít go wrong with this purchase.
