A game comes along every so often that shakes the very foundation of gaming. A game so superb that everyone should experience a title of this caliber, and let me tell you, Dragon Ball is most definitely not this title. Trust me folks, this is something you want to experience, just to taste the essence of crappiness is gives, well, I'll break it down into a few key areas.

Well, like the game's title says, this is the Dragon Ball Z Saga. It goes all the way from Goku's flight to fight Raditz, all the way to the ending of the Cell games. The game hits all major locations, from the hyperbolic time chamber to the post apocalyptic future world that Trunks hails from. If you've followed the series, you may enjoy reliving it thought video game form, or you may not. Considering I used to be a pretty big Dragon Ball Z fan I enjoyed the story well enough, and the story is told through anime cutscenes taken directly from the show, which was a nice touch. But if you've already watched through the series, there isn't much here for you to chew on. But for what it is, the story is pretty nice.

Though is directly take from the show, it still does have the same twists and turns we've come to expect from the DBZ series, and because the game sticks to the series' story to the tooth, it's a pleasurable experience.

Imagine playing a game of pool with a baseball bat, now imagine playing a game of pool with a baseball bat, with no arms. That's the best way to describe the controls that DBZ Sagas has. There is no clear way to aim, which is a major pain, considering the majority of this game has you mowing down countless identical enemies. Another complaint is the horrid flight controls. There's noway to control the height at which you are flying, which is another pain, because the game expects you to track down floating coins. I found my self running to the other side of the level looking for high ground to jump from. (mainly in hopes of dying so I didn't have to play the game anymore)...But I found myself flying to track down those coins every time.

There is no clear cut way to control the camera either. I found myself getting lodged behind a building countless times, getting pummeled by enemies, and no way to swing the camera over to see who I was fighting, or how to fly out from behind the obstacle.

These are some terrible controls, and they mar the game from being half decent, why Avalanche didn't add some way to control melee attacks, or an easy way aim energy attacks is beyond me. Although pulling off acquired combos proved to be rather easy.

This is about the only thing I found enjoyable about the game. The graphics were befitting, and the vibrant cel shaded landscapes brought the whole DBZ world together nicely. Everything seemed to flow together nicely, from every explosion, to every saibaman popping from the ground. The character models were very similar to those used in Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3, which if you've played it, you'll know that they look just like the anime counterpart. The effects in this gamer were presented very nicely too, all the energy attacks looked flashy and vibrant, and exploded with no slowdown whatsoever.

But that doesn't hide the flaws, some things can look really pixely, and some of the landscapes look blocky. And there's hardly any variation at all, most of the landscapes looked the same. Also, nearly all the enemies, excluding the bosses, looked the same, there could have been at the very least a little enemy variety. But these flaws didn't detract from them looking nice either.

Some games have beautiful instrumental soundtracks, some games have serene tranquil music playing in the backgrounds. But not Dragon Ball Z Sagas, this game has a mixture of nu-metal, and fakey pop music. This one is a real ear bleeder folks. The sound is easily the worst aspect of this game. The characters also give out signature move names, Goku's Kamehameham to Vegeta's Galic Gun, this was kind of a plus, but not enough to bring the sound up from the abysmal stink hole it crawled from.

I really have nothing positive to say about this game's sound. It's terrible through and through, I suggest putting on a nice CD while playing this. With horrible background music, and lackluster voice acting the sound in Dragon Ball Z Sagas needs to be seriously addressed if there is ever a sequel.

I Can't really say I would recommend this game to anyone. Although it is ideal for die hard Dragon Ball Z fans, anyone who isn't into the series by now should just stay away from this title, because there is nothing really outstanding about it. With it's horrible controls, horrible sound, decent graphics, and a story that sticks to the series, it is clear the game doesn't live up to expectations.
