My first pick is probably no surprise to any former N64 players. This game was the racing game to have back in the 90ís with a quirky weapon system, and familiar characters to choose from. Mario Kart 64 is by far the best game in the series with several features to boast.

If you are unfamiliar with the Mario Kart series, well, let me just say I feel sorry for you. Now that thatís out of the way, lets get into the game. Mario Kart 64 was the predecessor of the original Super Mario Kart on the SNES, and a great predecessor I may add. This crazy racer, coming out in early 1997 was the first title on the new console to feature 4 player play, and for the first time a N64 owner could race or duke it out with 3 of their buddies. These concepts werenít new in racing games, especially not new from the original Mario Kart game, but the jump to a new console also meant a jump in how well these concepts were presented.

In the racing modes, players can play through a Grand Prix either alone or with one friend. There are 4 competitions players can compete in, each with 4 differently themed courses. Each race is between 8 players, the majority being computers, and consists of high speeds, the use of weapons, and of course, crazy maneuvering. Weapons are a huge part of the game; the use of them is vital to push a kart racer from a lower placing to a higher placing. Various weapons have different purposes though, such as the shell used to nail an opponent kart, or a lightning bolt used to shrink all other racers. Each item has itís own perks as well as flaws.

As well as the Grand Prix, the multiplayer modes (for 2-4 players) are Battle Mode and VS. Mode. VS mode is just another racing mode where a specific course is chosen and played through, while Battle Mode is a completely different feel to the racing series. In Battle Mode, players must compete to stay alive, and hit opponents with weapons to make them lose balloons, or life. With every mode though, players are guaranteed endless hours of fun, competing and achieving your way to the top.

All in all, Mario Kart 64 is really a timeless classic. It was as great 10 years ago as it is today, and well worth the price (only 1/6 of the original price!) So, get your hands on a Wii Points card, and download this puppy today!

Highly Recommended - 9/10
