- This is definitely a first for me. I didnít even know there were 3D Room Break games before DYING: Sinnerís Escape came across my desk. Developed by Wuhan NEKCOM Network Technology Co., you play as several different characters; each locked in different rooms that are a part of their own living nightmares. This is the first episode in a series so you get bits and pieces of the story and it will unravel as the episodes are released. This game is very reminiscent of Saw; or at least thatís what I thought when I played the first room. This is probably due to people from Hollywood and other movie oriented people consulting on the game.
The opening sequences place you within a locked room and serves as your introduction to the gameplay mechanics. For instance to look around you use a two finger gesture to pan around the room. When you need to stand or walk around the room thereís a little button on the top right of the screen that you can click on to stand up and walk around. Always have to remember to look around so you donít miss something especially when you get stuck on what to do next.
This game has a bit of the hidden object vibe to it as you had to find clues, solve puzzles and find items to make your escape. There are instances where you must combine various items in order for them to utilize within the game. A bit of a saving grace is that some of the items you come across are useable multiple times, alleviating the stress of having to locate that said again.
Unlike most hidden object games though you donít get a permanent hint system. In this game you get one hint per episode and you have to use it wisely as thereís no meter that recharges after each use. However for those who canít figure it out, you have the option to purchase additional hints via the in-app purchase system. Itís nice knowing that this option is there as there are points in the game where you will have trouble figuring out your next move. On the flip side, it would have been nice to have a few additional hits made available within the game because itís a really hard.
While the episodes are fairly short in length, each one provides its own unique experience that has you focused for a good while. With the newest update they included an Auto-Save option which before didnít exist. This is a great help especially if you progress through an episode but get stuck and donít want to start completely over.
This is a challenging, creepy game that I actually liked a lot. 5 different rooms, 5 different people. Why are they stuck in there? Whatís going on? Itís an intriguing story with dark and gloomy visuals, and knowing that itís just a small part of a bigger story is kind of cool. At a $2.99 price tag I was taken back by the fact that they only provide you with 1 hint in the game. Thatís pretty pricey; especially when most games use a meter that recharges. Hopefully they will change this in future installments. But if youíre into room break/escape games check this one out.8/
